Amteck is thrilled to announce we have established routine opportunities to cross-train in the Technologies Division allowing employees to broaden their skill sets and explore Technologies as a long-term career. Those who participate in cross-training will gain valuable experience with infrastructure cabling, physical security systems, integration and much more. Additionally, you will meet and collaborate with new teams, enhance your professional growth, learn new perspectives of the industry, and expand their network within the organization. Cross-training opportunities are available on construction sites where Core Electric, Life Safety, and Technologies teams are working together, as well as on our National Accounts Technologies team that works with multiple Technologies specific customers throughout the country. Following cross-training, employees might return to their previous role with their new skills or have the opportunity to transition to the Technologies division. We have an immediate availability for those interested in a transition to Technologies, on our National Accounts traveling team.

Kris Cromer’s Journey: Embracing New Challenges and Opportunities at Amteck
Kris Cromer’s career at Amteck began in 2006 when he joined as a Journeyman Electrician. Over the years, he made his mark in the Core Electric department, traveling across the country, leading crews, and working on critical life safety systems. His role took him to as many as 17 states in a single year, where he experienced the fast-paced and ever-changing nature of electrical work.
But after years on the road, Kris sought a change in his routine and returned to Amteck’s Lexington headquarters to work locally. He joined the Service department, tackling various projects, yet he still felt a pull toward something more challenging. That shift happened when he worked on the UK Hospital project, where he was introduced to the Technologies and Communications side of the business. It was during this time that Kris realized he was ready for a new chapter.
At Amteck, employees are encouraged to shape their own paths. Kris was presented with a pivotal question: “What do you want to do next at Amteck?” With the support of his mentors and a desire to push his limits, Kris made the bold decision to transition into the Technologies department, knowing that it would present new challenges and growth opportunities.
Kris quickly found his stride in Technologies, embracing its smaller, tight-knit teams and the fast-paced learning environment. He became a Senior Project Manager for one of Amteck’s largest clients, where the ever-changing nature of the work kept him motivated. “Why be 1 in 100 when you can be 1 in 5?” Kris explains, reflecting on the direct impact and recognition he receives in his new role.
For Kris, the transition wasn’t just about taking on a new position—it was about growing in ways he hadn’t imagined. Technologies demanded more from him, but it also rewarded him faster for his efforts. Kris felt supported every step of the way, working closely with mentors who helped him succeed in a new field.
Despite the change in departments, Kris is quick to acknowledge the importance of his time in the electrical field. The foundational skills he gained as an electrician were essential in his success within Technologies. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the experience I had in the electrical field,” Kris says. “It provided me with the principles I needed to succeed in this new environment.”
